You've created this great new product, and now you want to shout your good news to all the world!  As a business owner and entrepreneur, a great press release is one of the best tools to get your exciting news out to the public.  Anyone can write a sales page, but it does take some talent to write a release grabs the publics attention and states  why your product is a hot new item that is newsworthy instead of a "come and by my stuff" letter.

  1. Catchy Headline.  As I've said before, you only have one chance to make a first impression.  When skimming through news feeds what catches your eye and what turns you off?  Make your news release include something that will improve the life of another person.  Don't just plaster your companies name as much as you can in one sentence.  For instance, which one catches your eye...  "New All Natural Formula Created To Keep Your Hair and Nails In Great Shape."     "Joan's Haircare Is Proud To Present Their Latest  Hair Care Formula Which Is Only Avaialbe At Joan's Haircare."

  2. Remember that it's news not sales.  Why is your product news?  What makes your product unique?  New things that make our life easier is big news to people.  You need to tell people about what makes your product great and not just give them a sales pitch and then try to close them.

  3. Use power words to grab your reader.  The power of words is most often underestimated.  Do some major searching online on this subject!  Remember to use action words and find out what people are most concerned with.  Remember Maslow's hierarchy?  Health, Wealth, Safety and Love.  That's what makes the world go around!  Other power words to be used are New, Breakthrough, Just discovered and proven.  People also like things to b e easy with a Guarantee.  And one of the strongest...  "YOU"

  4. KISS your press releases.  Keeping it simple sometimes is a hard thing to do after you have invented the lastest and greatest new thing, but must  be done for others to truly grasp what the product is about.  Don't go into great lengths to explain your product.  Think about the quality of what you are sayhing and not necessarily the quantity.

  5. Contact Information is a vital part for people to get a hold of you.  You want to give people a small taste of what they are getting in your product that makes them want more.  It's kinda like the potato chips, make it where people can't have just one little bite, they want to contact you for the whole bag of goodies.

The following is an example of a typical Press Release for a publishing service:

Here's a great test for a real press release. Since your final sales pitch is included in the last paragraph - read the Press Release aloud. Would it still be worth reading WITHOUT your sales pitch? If so, it's probably a Press Release.

Press Releases come in many forms due to the product you are writing about. However, the basic rule of thumb still applies. If you've never written one before, it may be a little difficult. Don't despair. Grab the latest daily newspaper and read some of their informational articles. Notice how each article is written and pattern yours after the same format. After you do a few of them, you'll be able to "get the picture."

Once your press release is written, it can be mailed to different companies, faxed, or even emailed to different entities, including newspapers, news websites, and eZine websites.

Don’t forget to publish your press release on your website. Don't let your website go stale. Let the people who visit your website know that you have NEWS for them!
